Virtual Therapy and EMDR in New York

Trauma-informed, evidence-based care delivered in a fully virtual setting, for adults anywhere in New York State, from Manhattan and Brooklyn to Long Island, Westchester and upstate. Secure video sessions from home or any private space.

Therapy That Meets You Where You Live

Life in New York moves fast. Commutes are long, workdays run late, and carving out two hours to travel to and from an appointment can feel impossible. Meeting by video removes the travel. You join from your home, a quiet office or anywhere private, and we spend the full session on what matters to you.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York State, and I have been in practice for 13 years. I work with adults and older adults on anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, relationships and stress, and I am trained in EMDR, an evidence-based therapy for processing distressing experiences.

Who I Can See in New York

Licensing rules are based on where you are physically located during each session, not where you live or work. If you are in New York State when we meet, I can see you.

  • All five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island
  • Long Island: Nassau and Suffolk counties
  • Westchester, Rockland and the Hudson Valley
  • Albany, the Capital Region and anywhere else upstate

If you split your time between New York and New Jersey, that works too. I am also licensed in New Jersey, so we can keep meeting whichever side of the Hudson you are on. You can read more on the New Jersey page.

How Video and Phone Sessions Work

Sessions take place on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. Before our first appointment you receive a link. There is nothing complicated to install, and you simply click to join at our scheduled time.

Most people prefer video because it feels closest to sitting in the same room. Phone sessions are also available when video is not practical, for example if your connection is unreliable or you feel more at ease speaking without a camera.

  • A private space where you will not be overheard, such as a closed room, a parked car or a booked office
  • A phone, tablet or computer with a stable internet connection
  • Headphones, if others are home
  • A few minutes before the session to settle in

Privacy and Confidentiality

Video sessions are held to the same confidentiality standards as sessions in an office. I join from a private space, and I ask you to do the same. If privacy at home is difficult, we can talk through options together, and many New Yorkers find that a parked car or a reserved room at work gives them the quiet they need.

EMDR by Video

EMDR can be done effectively by video. Instead of following my hand in the room, you follow a moving point on your screen or use self-guided tapping, while we work through the memories, triggers or beliefs that keep you feeling stuck. We always begin by building stability and coping skills before any processing work.

You can learn more about how it works on the EMDR therapy page.

Insurance and Payment

I accept a number of insurance plans, and I provide superbills for clients using out-of-network benefits. Coverage depends on your specific plan, so I am happy to help you check your benefits before we begin. A sliding scale is available based on eligibility. You can find the full list of plans and payment details on the fees and insurance page.

Getting Started

Therapy is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, or call 911.

Common Questions

Can I work with you if I live in New Jersey but work in New York?

Yes. What matters is where you are during each session. I am licensed in both New York and New Jersey, so we can meet whether you join from your New York office or from home in New Jersey.

Is therapy by video as effective as meeting in an office?

For many people and many concerns, research shows therapy by video works comparably to meeting in an office. What matters most is the relationship between you and your therapist and your consistency in attending.

Do you offer sessions by phone only?

Yes. Phone sessions are available when video is not practical. Some people start by phone and move to video later, and some prefer phone throughout.

Does insurance cover video sessions in New York?

Many plans cover telehealth sessions, but coverage varies by plan. I can help you verify your benefits before our first session. See the fees and insurance page for the plans I work with.

Do you have an office in New York?

No. New York clients meet with me by secure video or phone. In-person sessions in Montclair, New Jersey are available on request.
